U11 DIVISION 1 CHAMPIONS!!!
And a champions performance tonight.
OWCC won the toss and elected to bat. We scored 145 - 5 declared off 22 overs, Beckenham scored 15 all out. We won by 130 runs.
Pressure was on as we knew if we win we win the League (still to be verified by NKJL). Great start as Josh and Sam put on a partnership of 26 for the opening wicket. We then lost Louis quickly (for once) before Jacob joined Josh for an unbroken partnership of 40 before Josh (26*) and then Jacob (28*) retired respectively. Sean and Cem continued scoring before Joe Wall scored a super 26* including 2 massive 6s. Sean Cole, Ben Starling and Blue continued to score up to our declaration of 145 - 5.
Maximum batting points again!
We then bowled brilliantly. We have bowled so well this season and unfortunately for Beckenham we left the best until the last game of the season. An opening attack of Jacob and Jack (3 wickets each) saw Beckenham at 6-6 after 6 overs and then 15 all out with Louis and Sean picking up a
wicket each and Josh picking up the final 2 wickets in his first over. 2 catches each for Ben Starling (our wickie) and Jacob saw us win very very comfortably.
Maximum bowling points again!
We were outstanding again tonight and very worthy champions. Man of the Match tonight Jacob Gold.
We have gone through the entire 2009 season unbeaten - that takes some doing - so boys, be very proud of what you have achieved this season.
You have made me very proud.

OWCCC 162 - 2 off 24 overs BEAT Blackheath 52 all out off 12.2 overs
A superb resounding victory against the second placed team in the League.
The score says everything - we thrashed Blackheath in every department - batting, bowling and fielding. This was without doubt our best performance of the season. We have one game left against Beckenham on Tuesday - no complacency please we still need a number of points to win the League.
What a gorgeous day!! Old Wilsonians won toss and elected to bat.
We started brightly by winning the toss and correctly electing to bat. Louis Pryor (22*) and Josh Lawrence (25*) in an unbeaten opening partnership of 49 before Louis retired. Luke Saint came in and was unlucky with a ball that dipped onto his stumps. Jacob Gold (25*) then played his own way scoring quickly until he had to retire. Sean Beckett played well for his 11 before being caught and then a quick fire partnership from Cem Tumkaya (16*) and Joe Wall (10*) took our total to a massive 162 off 24 overs.
Brilliant and the best we have batted all season - maximum batting points, but could we also get maximum bowling points for the first time this season - and against the second placed team.
Yes was the answer. As per usual a great opening spell from Luke and Jacob put Blackheath at 25 - 5 off 6 overs - they were never going to recover. 53 all out with which included a brilliant jointly composed run out by Jack Whittaker and Josh and three fine catches.
Everyone in the team deserves credit for this performance including those who didn't bat or bowl but were still required to field and keep the adrenalin flowing within the team so well done and to our 12th man Alex who came to the ground in case of emergencies.
One more game so please note we still need to play well and keep our concentration.
Well done. The whole of the team win the man of the match award today.

1st July 2009 OWCCC U11s - 142 -10 off 23.5 overs WON by 49 runs - Bromley 93 - 6 off 24
Bromley won toss and elected to field. What a superb start - half way through and we are 85 - 1 loss of Sam Cupitt for 15. Josh Lawrence and Louis Pryor bat beautifully and score 26 no and 29 run out (last ball) respectively. Luke and Sean supported very ably too. We get a our second best total so far this season and end on 142 which to be fair was going to be very hard to score if the start is not quick.
It wasn't. We bowled efficiently and fielded well. All six bowlers bowled 4 overs and were economical and deserve credit for their performances: The best of the bunch was Josh Lawrence who span the ball today more than I have seen all season and ended on 3-11. Josh also held a super catch as did Louis in the slips off Josh. 3 run outs - a brilliant direct hit from Jack and others from Sean Beckett and Louis. The bowlers did their job - Josh, Louis, Luke, Jack, James and Sean
This really was a very good performance and a special thanks to Sam Cupitt who kept wicket today. We were not at full strength but everyone who played can be proud of themselves today as Bromley are not a bad team.
So boys just a couple of moans - we still havent got maximum bowling points so we will need to work on that in our final couple of games and if I'm to be pedantic some of the fielding was a little shoddy and against Blackheath we cannot afford that.
But in short we win both our next games we win the League!
Well done today - it was a very good all round performance and also well done to the other players who made debuts today - Cerys Lawrence, Tom Cox, Josh Hazzard and Carl Baker.
What a game!!
Match tied. Darford won toss batted first and scored 72-9, we scored 72-10.
It was a great game but a game we should have won and won easily. To restrict a side to 72 is excellent but we dropped 3 catches today all of which should have been caught and of the 72 scored by Dartford, 34 runs were made up of no balls and wides.
The pick of the bowlers were Jacob 1-2 off 4, Luke 3-12 off 3 and Sean 2-5 off 3.
The batting was basically awful. We must learn to run the first single strongly and put pressure on the fielding team. We lost 3 wickets to superb fielding by one guy - H Cullingham - all direct hits but apart from the first if we'd run the first quickly we would have put even more pressure on him. I should point out also, that had one of the throws not hit we would have won! - the game was that close. The only batsman to get into double figures today was Jacob with 19, the next best score was Luke with 5 not out and that says a lot about our batting display today.
But on a positive note we were poor today and we are still unbeaten. We must however learn from this and stop the extras and improve our running between the wickets.
Men of the match: Jacob and Luke.

13 June 2009 - Sidcup vs OWCCC Under 11
Old Wilsonians 104-9 BEAT Sidcup 75-9 by 29 runs
An early morning start at Sidcup on 13 June. Pitch looking very tired if we win the toss we should bat first. We duly won a toss and batted first.
After less than an hour we were in real danger of not getting many runs and not using all our overs - 39-4 off 13 overs and then 57-6 off 17. Oh dear! But after the drinks break we decided to listen to tactics and a super rearguard action started with Sean Cole batting as defensively as ever with Louis Pryor superb run of form with the bat continuing. A special mention to for Sam Cupitt who volunteered to open today - thanks and same again for Thursday please.
Louis had to retire (later coming back in to hit 6 runs off the last 2 deliveries) and then Luke Saint batted sensibly at the end. We managed to get to a reasonable total of 104 off all our 24 overs and we thought we had a chance!
Batting highlights - Louis 32 not out. Sean 8 off 30 balls and a very important innings!
So 104 to defend.
We bowl and field brilliantly normally and today was no exception. Jacob Gold was extremely unlucky not to have had an LBW 1st ball of the innings against Sidcup's danger man Miles Clifford. But after 4 overs Sidcup had been reduced to 9-2. Again another decent openning spell by Jacob and Luke Saint. Jack Whittaker came on and got a wicket and the game was heading our way, but Clifford was still there. Not for too long though as Josh Lawrence bowled a cracker that produced a thin edge and a brilliant diving catch by our wickie Ben Starling and Clifford was out. 31-4 off 9. Game over? It should have been and to be fair it was. We bowled other bowlers including Cem Tumkaya who got a couple of wickets in his second over.
As I've said before we bowl accurately and field well and a total of 104 should be OK - and Sidcup fell 29 runs short. Fielding is vital and the old proverb catching wins matches is so right - Sidcup dropped one of our batsman 3 times - guess who.
Bowling highlights: Jacob 2-2, Cem 2-10 but all the bowlers should be happy
today - WELL DONE.

3 June 2009 - OD Cuaco U12s v Owccc U12s Harry Bright Cup
A grey overcast chilly Spring evening was the background for this Cup match played at OD Cuaco's pleasant ground in Park Langley on a slightly greenish pitch graced with the oldest set of stumps and bails that I have ever seen probably borrowed from the great man's collection of cricket memorabilia.
Prior to the game I was met by our umpire who informed me that the opposition were a very strong team an it was likely to be tight. He usually gets his decisions right in the middle especially when not wearing his shades but I certainly wouldn't be visiting him at a fairground in his other occupation "Madame Fortune."
OD Cuaco won the toss and chose to bat. Personally I always prefer to chase. However it's a matter of opinion. Clearly the thinking was that the light would likely deteriorate with a 24 over a side game so making batting second more difficult.
But batting first needs to achieve one very important objective a competitive total which I am afraid for OD Cuaco is where it all went so disastrously wrong. At 19 for 6 in the sixth over as one of their supporters said to me "This wasn't in the plan." Nor I suppose was the excellent bowling of Jacob Gold and Imran Faqir for the first six overs or the fine fielding of the team and the fact that Owccc took all the catches offered (not always a common event with Owccc teams) to Faqir Lawrence and Wall.
Rocked by a two wicket maiden in Jacob's first over OD Cuaco then compounded their position with some poor shot selection. Total collapses are rare so you have to expect a rally. It came from Dixon (17) and Cornish the latter being the youngest batsman in their side who made a very good 23. They put on 40 for the seventh wicket. Owccc's bowlers continued to plug away generally bowling good lines and lengths. Weathering the storm, bowling straight and on the stumps eventually paid off because there will be mistakes when the batters are under pressure in an innings. With Dixon out and Cornish shortly after to good deliveries from Jukes and Tumkaya the innings fell away to 68 all out with Jacob Gold returning 5 for 7 off 3.2 overs.
Owccc did not find batting particular easy early on against some very quick bowling by Rouse but from the fourth over scored at good rate with Faqir undefeated on 18 a very responsible and good innings to see us over the line in 13.5 overs at 69 for 2.
Ironically I have only been to OD Cuaco twice with Colts teams in the last three seasons and each time we have won because of a batting collapse. In the first game they went from 60 for 2 to 81 all out. Each time one of our bowlers has left with the match ball so I was very pleased to present this to Jacob Gold at the end of the game for his five wickets. Each time Andrew Mew has managed their team and watched haplessly from square leg umpire as most of the damage has been wreaked on his team. If you check the ground there carefully you will find the repairs to the square that their groundsman has had to make as he has shuffled around watching the devastation in front of him. Oh how frustrating it can be when there is nothing you can do about it.
We won this game because of a very compact team performance which is reflected by the extras figure of 15 which at this level is very good. Well done to the team: J Gold (Capt.) S Beckett, M Brindley, T Cox, I Faqir, E Hayes, J Jukes, J Lawrence, R Phillips, C Tumkaya and J Wall.

4.06.09 - U11 OWCCC 109-9 off 24 overs BEAT Old Colfeians 81-9 off 24 overs by 28 runs.
Old Colfeians won the toss and put us into bat (had we won the toss we would have batted) - good start.
A real crunch match against the top of the table Old Colfeians side.
Solid batting from Luis Pryor (21), Cem Tumkaya (15 no) and Jacob Gold (13) saw us get 109 runs which if I am honest was, I thought, an OK total but a very gettable one for Old Colfeians. The batting was OK, but again the running between the wickets needs to be looked at - we lost 2 wickets to run outs - so we shall work on this at training.
So Old Colfeians needed just over 4.5 an over - obtainable! Well they didn't really get going due to a very impressive openning spell by Jacob and Luke Saint. When you have a solid start as the fielding team it puts pressure on the batting team to make runs quickly which in turn leads the batting team to make errors in going for silly singles or not running at all - so again well done to all the fielders. It shows that when we are fielding concentration is key. We bowled 9 bowlers and as I have said fielded yet again exceptionally well. Catches were held - well done Louis and Josh Lawrence and overall the bowling was sound. Jacob - 2-8, Luke 2-9 and Louis 2-10 were the pick of the bowlers.
Well done to you all and onto our next game against Sidcup. Keep this going and who knows what will happen in the League title chase!!
Man of the Match: Louis Pryor

20.05.09 - U11 OWCCC 170 - 2 off 24 overs beat HSBC 57 - 8 by 113 runs.
Batting overall was good but note that out of our massive total only 96 came from the bat and a huge 74 runs were extras. The running between the wickets was much better this game but still improvements can be made. Louis Pryor top scored with an impressive 26 retired not out, followed by Sean Beckett 25 not out, Josh Lawrence 24 run out! and Sam Cupitt 19 not
out.
So 170 to defend should have been easy and it was. Our bowling and fielding was again xcellent. We used 9 bowlers in this innings and all were economical and I think I can say that our bowling and fielding is as good as any other team in this League so well done to you all.
Sean Beckett took 2 - 12 in his 4 overs and special mention to Jack Whittaker who bowled 3 overs without a run being given away by him and Jacob Gold who bowled 4 overs without a run being scored off him both getting a wicket each. In this form of the game to bowl maidens is impressive and to bowl many overs in an innings and not give away any runs is really very very good.
Sean Beckett is today's man of the match.
Please note boys - that I don't want anyone getting injured so jumping on fellow players is unacceptable. Please think about what you are doing!!
Having said that - well done and bring on the next game!!!

7.05.09 - U13A Gravesend v Old Wilsonians
This was the first and by far the furthest away game of the season for the U13s and one which started in a truly convincing win. After losing the toss, Wilsonians were put into the field and despite this being the first game of the season and players potentially being rusty, we bowled a good line and length and fielded excellently with all players encouraging and backing each other up. Although our bowling was good, most of the Gravesend players actually got themselves out by playing across the line to a good ball on the stumps giving us constant wickets. In fact, 9 of their batters were bowled showing the sort of line we were bowling and the sort of shot selection they were taking.
With our bowlers bowling well Gravesend should have been taking the singles to keep the score ticking but refused meaning we bowled them all out for just 76 in the 16th over. Joe Groves and David Smith were the pick of the bowlers picking up 3 and 2 wickets respectively.
Our openers Velsen Devarajulu (28 Not Out) and Scott Jenkins (10) made a lightening start knocking off 33 runs off in the first 4 overs. Joe Groves also hit a maximum (25 Not Out) and Matt Davis (5 Not out) and Elliot Hayes (0 Not Out) provided excellent support meaning we got to the target in only the 11th over. George Brindley was unlucky to fall for a dubious LBW but don't worry George, plenty of time left in the season!
I was extremely happy in the way the boys put exactly what we talked about at half time into practice and did exactly the opposite to Gravesend. The batsmen treated a good ball on the stumps with respect, hit the bad ones and took the singles which were always ready available. A special thanks must go to Harry Bennett and Jack Davis who although didn't bat or bowl contributed excellently in the field. A thoroughly enjoyable win however I would expect sterner tests from better sides.
